Worse than the last week with my first wife
He said he needed to get some stuff
No middle city, it's barely a town
He kept his hunting knife, titanium clipped, to a nylon belt,
sat high on his hip, for self -defense.
It was a regular morning, no red, black,
blue warnings, no nothing suspicious,
I didn't see the full gas
I just nodded and tossed him the keys
Did I see shaking in his hands?
Was he making darker plans than usual?
We all thought he was in the clear now
But it wasn't what I talked to him that day
It was a beast that never goes away
Was I not paying attention?
Sunday was another doomsday
last judgment's not far away
He talked of it evenly in his blood
He spoke of fire, he spoke of floods
Cause when I'm paying attention
Thought he would end it all right there
climbed back into the cab
