I've known a lady
since I was a baby
And she's meant the world to me
I never saw her take a drink,
nor smoke a cigarette.
And she never danced with other men
after she and her husband met.
I never saw her with a fashion catalog
trying to decide what she should wear.
She was never in a
beauty salon in her life.
She always calmed her own hair.
She was no fanatic about anything.
She never called herself good,
but she often read the Bible
and she went to church when she could.
She never complained of her rewards,
though she often gave more than her part.
And I believe that she left this old world
with a full and grateful heart.
In the eyes of the world,
she would be the kind
that would be called homie, plain,
and old -fashioned. But in the eyes of God, she is a Jew.
Now, she wasn't the only lady in her time.
I know that there were others.
But I'm mighty thankful
to have known a lady like my mother.
I've known a lady since I was a baby
And she's meant the world to me.
