Grandpa
August
Winesap painted the house he lived in red,
and green, and purple, and orange.
It looked like something in between
a bad hangover and a big
Easter egg.
Grandpa was 83 years old last
December, and he was more
than fond to wit a bunch.
The day before yesterday, I saw
Grandpa down at the courthouse
counting out two dollars
and pennies to buy this
here marriage license.
He cut a mighty handsome figure standing there in his green hat,
this here yellow shirt with
them big blue roses all over it.
I said,
Grandpa, how come it took you so long
to make up your mind to marry
Whit a bunch?
Grandpa
Winesap looked up at me with them 83
-year -old eyes and said,
Well, it's just that a feller needs time
to get all of his bluesin' done.
I never did ask
Grandpa what bluesin' was.
Next time I see him, I think I will.
And maybe someday I'll even get around to askin'
him why he painted his house all them colors.
Billy got a rooster and
Sally got a hen,
Billy got a rooster and
Sally got a hen,
Billy got a rooster and
Sally got a hen.
They don't know what's
the matter with them.
Both of them got big red spots
on both of them
Woman, don't you talk
to me in my bad ear
Woman, don't you talk to
me in my bad ear
Woman, don't you talk to me in my bad ear
I can't hear
Way down here
I'm blue
Old blues, just bluesin'
Woman gotta walk like a duck
on a barbed wire fence
Woman gotta walk like a duck on a
barbed wire fence
Woman gotta walk like a duck
on a barbed wire fence
Try to tell me she got good sense
Talk about somebody
don't know nothin'
She don't suspect nothin'
What she got, you can't get for free
What she got, you can't get for free
What she got, you can't get for free
Sunday paper and the misery
And a lifetime subscription to the
Tulsa
Tribune
I'm blue, oh blue, just bluesin'
Woman, better shut up,
you don't do nothing but talk
Woman, better shut up,
you don't do nothing but talk
Woman, better shut up,
you don't do nothing but talk
Gonna mess around,
have to get out and walk
And it's a long journey into the
darkness tonight, child
Well, I'm bluesin', oh,
bluesin', just bluesin'
Thank
